Pastor Mark Driscoll at The Gospel Coalition 2009 National Conference

Mark Driscoll preached an awesome sermon to ministry leaders at The Gospel Coalition 2009 National Conference in Chicago, IL last month. Great inspiration, especially for those involved in leading ministry.

Notes

There were some other great men of God who also preached and taught at this conference. Tim Keller, D.A. Carson, John Piper, and others.

@PastorMark Twittered from Chicago as he enjoyed a Cubs game with Pastor James MacDonald, another one of my figurative mentors. How awesome it would have been!

What It's About

"Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who are elect exiles..." 1 Peter 1:1 (ESV)

Welcome! Thank you for checking out The Elect Exile Blog. Here I will offer my insights and even what wisdom I can for the purpose of instructing and building up all who will listen in the Lord. It is my prayer for this blog that those who do not know Jesus will come to know him, and that those who do will come to know him better.

The Goal
In Peter's first epistle, he addresses the church as "elect exiles". Election is the idea that God chose us for relationship with him. God chose to create us, he chose to pursue us, and best of all he chose to save us through Jesus Christ. For those who believe, this is great news! God rescued us when we were ill-deserving of his grace! Because he is a good God. I will attempt to unpack and teach passages of scripture, drawing on great teachers who have gone before me and adding my own insight along the way. That is half of what this blog is all about.

Exile, then, can be the result of that election. When we embrace the gospel and pursue holiness through a relationship with Jesus Christ, we are often cast out by society and often by those closest to us. In the Christian life, it is not uncommon for believers around the world to lose their jobs, their families, and even their very lives for the cause of the gospel of Christ. The second part of this blog is to provide hope to my fellow believers as we can often feel lost in the throws of the battle around us.
